Do deep RPGs and strategy games work on a phone?
Big systems on a small screen are a design nightmare, and most games handle it badly. The good ones make peace with the constraint instead of fighting it.
Embercrown Saga keeps a real party and elemental system but lets you speed battles up, which is the compromise that makes it commute-friendly. Tideborne Outpost goes the other way and just slows everything down so you can think.
The failure mode is cramped menus and tiny buttons. If you're misclicking abilities in a boss fight, the depth doesn't matter, it's just annoying.
So yes, they can work, but readability beats ambition every time on mobile. We'd rather a slightly simpler game we can actually operate.
