Embercrown Saga
★★★★☆ 4.4
Embercrown Saga surprised me. Mobile RPGs often thin out their systems until nothing matters, but this one keeps real teeth. You build a party of four, juggle elemental weaknesses and cooldowns, and the harder bosses actually punish lazy tactics.
The writing won't win awards, but it's charming and never overstays its welcome between fights. Battles are turn-based and can be sped up, which is exactly what you want when you're grinding a bit on the train. Auto-battle exists for the easy stuff but switches off the moment things get spicy.
Menus are a little cramped on small screens, and the early hours are slow. Once your party clicks, though, the encounter design really opens up.
What we liked
- Meaningful party and elemental systems
- Battles you can speed up or slow down
- Boss fights that reward planning
